Backfire is a research project focusing on the relationship between stigma and design that I worked on over the course of my fourth year at Emily Carr University. The title "Backfire" refers to the attitude rebound most destigmatizing design causes; the majority of destigmatizing visual communication actually exacerbates the issue. I combined psychological research about stigma and behavior change design theory to give designers a better understanding of how we can make more informed and more effective destigmatizing design.
